Chapter 30

I was not as comfortable, though. Something snapped outside one of the cottage’s windows. The noise drew my attention away from cuddling with Coose. Was someone outside the cottage? Had that measly Damian and his queer partner discovered the cottage and my whereabouts? Was there an animal lurking about Coose’s property, searching for food?

The natural instinct to defend myself kicked into full gear. Promptly I pulled away from my naked partner and stood. I decided to make way across the living room’s floorboard to the closest window positioned near the front door. If someone or something was outside, I wanted to see who or what it was. Murder was not beneath me, I had proved this numerous times. My defense was up and I was ready to confront whatever awaited me on the outside of Coose’s cottage.
