Chapter 33

Their shoulders sometimes grazed together as they walked toward the dark shadow of the cottage in the deep woods. For Damian, it was soothing and felt rather nice. He sometimes wished Ridge and he could have normal lives and carry out administrative jobs in a safe office somewhere. Downtown Pittsburgh and working among its three rivers seemed like a dream job compared to this maddening hunt. Their lives in the field as agents were always stressful, intense, and challenging. Neither knew if a day would be dangerous or harmless. But none of those concerns could matter though, since they had the Highwayman to find and take down, keeping him alive.

Damian felt that the walk was taking forty minutes. He was exhausted, hungry, and wanted all of this over and done with. The Highwayman case had to come to end. If not, he would surely find himself depleted, sick, or semi-psychotic.
