Chapter 5

The stranger had followed him and was peeking around the corner into the bathroom.

The only question that made sense to Cody to ask was, “Why are you dressed like Santa’s little helper?”

The man shrugged. “Because I am. Or, well, I used to be.”

Cody paused, Band-Aid in hand, to look at the guy. He furrowed his brow. “It’s four-thirty A.M., I’ve had a very long flight, and I’m not sure my body has even made it into this time zone, yet. So why don’t you cut the crap and tell me who you are and what you’re doing here.” For no reason he could explain he added somewhat more softly, “I know it’s pretty awful out there. Don’t worry, I’m not going to kick you out tonight.”
