He doesn’t ask me who I’m going out with later, and I don’t offer the information. At his age, I know I didn’t think any teacher was attractive, except Miss Lee who taught Music. When I was in the first grade, she had to be in her early thirties, with bleached blonde hair she wore in that feathered style so popular back then and big blue eyes she accented with blue eyeshadow. She was sort of a minor celebrity in my school—she was the only person I ever knew who’d actually been on TV. True, it was an ad for a used car dealership, but still. She was pretty in a flashy sort of way, and I wouldn’t have been surprised if my father wanted to date her.
