Chapter 20

I nod wisely. “I have Tyler. He’s a kid.”

“You ping my gaydar, though,” Greg says. “Tompkins doesn’t.”

Ah yes, the infamous gaydar. “Lisa used to joke she had the best gaydar in the world,” I tell him. “She always said she should’ve started a dating service for gay men. She knew I was gay before Idid. When I finally got up the nerve to tell her, she was like, yeah, duh.”

Softly, Greg says, “You talk about her a lot.”

I shake my head as if to clear it. “Bad habit, I’m sorry. They always say not to talk about your last lover with your new one, don’t they? I’m sorry.”

He wraps a comforting arm around my shoulders. “Don’t be. She obviously meant a lot to you, and I know you still miss her.”

My throat closes in sudden sadness. “Every day,” I whisper. “But this is good, you know? Being with you, moving on. It’s time I got out of the past, for Tyler’s sake.”
