He loses his job.

He will not go to jail.

He will have to move out of Newberry and find a new life elsewhere.

Period 2: Mrs. Schennell is now my English teacher, a wicked vampire who sucks the life out of our youthful bodies. I can’t even think about her without becoming sick to my stomach. In fact, all I can think about is how she replaced Mr. Mann, swooping into his job, being in charge so suddenly, and blind-siding me. It feels like one day Mr. Mann is teaching me about symbolism in Steinbeck’s East of Eden, and the next day Mrs. Vampire arrives.

I daydream in her class, thinking about the man she has replaced. I drift from one daydream to the next, all of which star Mr. Mann. I go numb inside, awake but unconscious.
