Chapter 5

I saw nothing of the sort, though, and eventually ignored the humming. Following my shower, I dried off, dressed in my clothes, and found my way to the kitchen, where a freshly-prepared breakfast and Dane Bentley awaited me.

I ate in silence, enjoying bacon, eggs, toast with butter, a freshly squeezed glass of orange juice, and delicious strawberries. He sat across from me with his elbows on the quartz bar. He eyed me up and down, seemingly enjoying my every motion.

“Do you feel refreshed, Shane?”

I did, and nodded.

“I see you were ravenous.”

Again, I nodded, chewing on a strip of bacon and downing some orange juice at the same time.

“I have a little questionnaire to fill out about you, if you don’t mind.”

I didn’t mind. Dane pulled out a piece of white paper and a piece of sky-blue paper, picked up a Mont Blanc pen.

“Are you ready to begin?”
