Chapter 14

“Dane hired me to find you. I made sixty thousand dollars off of you. Paid in cash. No receipt. The bills were fresh and smelled new. It’s probably the biggest payoff I’ve had from headhunting.

“I knew Dane’s history and what he did to those boys and young men. I knew about the photographs, the leather straps, and how he starved some of his pets. I knew about the rapes and beatings. I knew about the starvation. I knew that he had a problem and didn’t know how to control himself. I knew everything. All of it.

“He said he’d stopped. I decided to believe him. Obviously, he has a problem. Shame on me for not believing him.”
