“I think he liked O.B. better,” Neil said, still laughing. “How about it, O.B.? You two seemed to hit it off all right? He try anything with you?”

Feeling threatened, O.B. changed the subject: “Where you guys thinkin’ of goin’ tonight? Maybe I willcome with ya.”

The Bolts won the game, sweeping their second series in a row. Because they’d had such a turn-around in their past few games and were on a winning streak, there was more than the usual throng of reporters in the locker room after the game.

The more O.B. thought about not seeing Avery because he’d agreed to go out with the team, the more he regretted his decision.

Maybe I can drive over to his place after I go out with the guys, he thought. O.B. looked at the crowd of reporters and players, trying to find Avery, hoping to get a chance to speak with him. O.B. finally located the reporter among a group of media types doing a Q-and-A with Whitey Woodson, the team manager.
