Avery said, “Go on.”

“He wanted to let me know that he had no interest in me whatsoever and to not bother him anymore because he had this fantastic guy he was head-over-heels in love with and wasn’t now, or would ever be, available to me, that we were over and done with. We had dinner and a drink and he took me home. Believe me, Avery—Mr. Turner—that was it. At dinner all he talked about was you and how much he loved you, how you had changed him, and how he wanted to do everything he could to make you happy. Honest, I was hitting on him at the start, but he’s really hung up on you, man.”

Chuck stopped. He glanced from Avery to O.B. and back to Avery again. O.B. watched Avery, to see if Chuck’s words had gotten through.
