The eyes on the faces looked all about them and for the first time Charam wondered what they could see, if in fact they could see at all. It was beyond him how they even operated, without any internal attachments.
As the tremors began to ease, Charam returned to the house and set about cleaning up the mess. As he went from room to room, sweeping and dusting, placing things back on shelves and shaking out the bedding, he was relieved to find that there had been no major damage. Apart from a few cracks in the ceiling and walls and a couple of broken goblets the worst of it was the thick layer of dust and rubble that covered everything.
He’d almost finished the clean up when he heard a commotion at the front door.
“Get your hands off me!” It was Raum. He’d obviously returned from some inspection or other. “Do you know who I am? Let go of me!”
Curious as to what was going on Charam left his cleaning to go and investigate.
