“We’re doing the best we can,” Sol said quietly.
The rest of the meeting discussed Project Politician Persuasion, and I reluctantly admitted what my parents had said the night before about spreading the word to get rid of all Gay Communities.
Mal and I were emotional wrecks by the time the meeting ended. We left in brooding silence. Both of us had ended up in tears, and a few other members even joined in. The next meeting wasn’t for another week now that Project Jericho was delayed once again. It was Wednesday, and we should have been anxiously anticipating Friday. Instead, my feet dragged as I walked to my bike so I could take Mal home.
She put her hand in mind. “Please stay with me tonight.”
I nodded, not wanting to spend another night alone at my house.
Surprisingly, Mal didn’t tell her family every detail of the meeting this time when we got to her place, but she did tell them that Project Jericho had been delayed.
Her mom gave us both hugs, and her brothers scoffed.
