“I’m going to go put this little one to bed.” Alexis leaned down and scooped the exhausted child into her arms, leaving Katie and Lynn alone.


Lynn stood, staring at Katie. “Hopefully we will have our answer by morning.” She turned and walked over to her purse, pulling her wallet out and sliding a worn photo from beneath the plastic. “Until then, keep this. Maybe it will…somehow spark a memory.” Lynn handed Katie the photo that had been taken just days before Evelyn was abducted. Katie’s hands trembled as she looked at the photo. “Are you alright?”


“Yeah,” Katie nodded. “I just…I had the strangest sensation.” She smiled and suddenly pulled Lynn into a tight embrace.


Lynn closed her eyes, holding Katie for several minutes. When she finally pulled away, she touched her cheek. “If you find out anything, come and wake me.”


“I will. I promise. And Lynn…if you need anything…Come and wake me.” Katie smiled as they slowly parted and went their separate ways.  24
