Chapter 32

“But you shouldn’t have to,” Mark said, sounding frustrated. “I told Vernon about me, about us.”

I could feel my eyebrows rise up. “Oh?”

Mark laughed. “Vernon said he already knew. Seems we aren’t as careful about how we look at each other as we thought we were.”

“Oh.” Clearly my conversational skills had taken a hike. To try and improve things I asked, “And he’s okay, he doesn’t mind?”

Mark laughed again. “Says his girlfriend thinks it’s great that he works with a gay bloke.”

“Girlfriend?” Yep, I was back to one word replies.

Mark didn’t seem to notice, or if he did, he didn’t make a comment about it. I just sat there and continued to listen to my man tell me about his evening. One other thing he said was that his room had two separate beds. That was good, although with my newly acquired knowledge of Vernon’s heterosexuality it was less of a concern.

“And you’ll be glad to know I found a phone that accepts phone cards,” Mark said at one point.
