Chapter 51

Roy agreed and I let Mark in. He mustn’t have had a key, but then I guessed he wouldn’t.

“The Golden Dragon is still in business,” Mark told Roy who had shuffled into the hallway.

I followed Mark into the kitchen, where he began to open up various foil boxes.

“I got a few different things so you could choose,” Mark told his dad.

“Thanks, it all looks great.”

I had to admit it did, and the smell was pretty good, too. My mouth was watering and my stomach let out a rumble.

“We’ll eat in the front room,” Roy said.

“Mum would have never approved of that,” Mark said, smiling at his father.

“I know.” Roy returned the smile. “But let’s do it anyway.”

Thursday morning dragged by. The hands on the mantel clock in Roy’s front room seemed to take an age to move. Both Mark and I got up more than once to see if the thing was still working.

Roy let out an exasperated breath. “Whatever happens this afternoon will happen. You two worrying won’t change anything.”
