“Oh, honey.” She gave a sympathetic chuckle.
Then she smacked me upside the head. “That’s not what I meant. What happened between you and Josh?! Did you talk about it? Does he have the same feelings? Was he just drunk-dancing?”
I gave her an incredulous look. “You think I want to hear those words come out of his mouth? ‘Dude, I was just wasted…’? Have we met? We didn’t talk about it! We didn’t talk about anything besides ‘geeze, I feel like crap.’”
Katie was shaking her head with resignation.
“Jason and Bianca, of course, pressed us for details, but we just told them the truth: we got a ton of Hungry Jack’s, then passed out before we ate hardly any of it. No,” I concluded, draining my coffee cup, “that was my chance with Josh, and I blew it. Back to pining in vain.”
“Oh, goody.”
“Yeah, I’m thrilled about it, too.”
