Chapter 80

“Six fifty-nine!” I trumpeted as the driver closed the cargo door and settled himself into his seat to hit the road. The rest of the crew let out a little cheer. We pulled away from the hotel and headed to the airport and, from there, back to Narita.

It’s a short flight back to Narita, less than three hours, but it was early afternoon before we were back at the Let’s and I was dragging my ass from the lobby to my room, hoping I would at least make it out of the marble lobby and into the carpeted hallway before I passed out asleep. Even better, I made it as far as my room, which was right across the hall from Josh (thanks to a quick trade with Gladys Chao, who took my originally-assigned room one floor below, saying “You boys behave,” which I pretended not to hear.).

“Want to grab some dinner in a bit?” he asked me as we were letting ourselves into our rooms and stripping off our jackets and ties.
