“Put your dirty clothes in this plastic sack so you don’t stink up your clean ones,” Ash said. She laughed. “I’m going to end up carrying everything after a while! That will be another good thing about finding a creek. We can wash our clothes.”

When their blankets got mostly dry, she led the way east. There were a lot of clouds in the sky, but the sun wasn’t hidden. Ash tried to walk through the evergreen trees without brushing against them because they were still wet. There were huge puddles everywhere.

“I hope it doesn’t rain again for a while,” Dayna said.

“If it does, we’ll just hide under a tree again.” Kevin jerked the cooler over a fallen branch.

“It isn’t safe to be out in the middle of a bunch of trees while a storm is going on,” Ash said. “I hope it doesn’t rain for a long time, either.”
