Chapter 52

Ash yanked the cooler through a muddy patch and adjusted her bag. “I don’t know.”

“Wait,” Dayna said. “I thought you at least had some kind of plan.”

Ash ducked under a low branch. “I mean, I do have someidea. Matt has his instructions about what to bring, and will help keep us going for a while longer until we find a permanent place to live.” She hoped she sounded confident.

“Okay,” Kevin said. “We’ll probably find a barn or an abandoned house to live in. Either that or a forest far away from all other people and we’ll build a big tree house. I’ll have the best animals. Squirrels, raccoons, deer…”

Kevin rambled on in front of them and Dayna looked at Ash with one eyebrow raised. She turned and walked ahead to join her brother without a word.
