Chapter 108

Ash nodded. “Yeah.”

Dayna considered this as she pulled back her thick dark hair with both hands. “Even if we have to hide from hunters and cops and everybody else, it’s still better than being at home.” She grunted. “My hair makes it about a hundred degrees hotter out here.”

“I have scissors,” Ash said. “If I cut your hair maybe people won’t realize who you are.”

“Okay.”

“I want a haircut, too,” Kevin said. “Dayna always cuts my hair, though.”

“She can borrow my scissors when I’m done, then,” Ash said.

Dayna’s heart didn’t hurt anymore, but her whole body was covered in sweat. That had been a close call. They stood again.

“They might walk through this way again when they’re done,” Ash said. She bit her lip. “They could be anywhere out there. I don’t know what to do.”

A gunshot blasted. Dayna dropped and Kevin fell into her arms. Ash dove to her belly. Dayna didn’t think any of them had been shot, though.

“You got it!” one man yelled.
