“Come on, you know I’m right!” Dayna said.

She looked at Dayna mischievously. “Yeah, probably.”

“Jon-Allen understands me. His mom drank, but he says she didn’t do too many mean things to him. And he’s so nice, not like Tom—”

She dropped the cooler and her bag and dry heaved. She put a hand to her stomach.

Ash gasped. “Are you okay?”

Dayna shook her head. She dropped to her knees.

“We’re taking a break!” Ash yelled. She sat by Dayna.

Dayna retched again. She put a hand over her face.

“I hate remembering,” Dayna whispered. “It’s so disgusting.”

“It’s okay. I won’t let them take you back,” Ash said fiercely.

“Is she all right?” Jon-Allen asked from a distance.

“Back off,” Ash snapped. “Look, she needs a break. You guys keep playing tag for a while, okay?”

“Thanks, I don’t want them to see me like this,” Dayna said. “Will I ever be able to forget?”
