Chapter 162

Matt shouted. Ash dropped one of her jars and ran toward the sound.

A man wearing a vest reading Corner Marketheld Matt by the arm. Dayna peeked around a corner, her jacket bulging.

“This boy was stealing!” the man shouted.

Matt tried to wrench himself from the man’s grasp as a woman and another man approached, also wearing vests.

Ash ran forward and jerked Matt away from the man, who was several inches shorter than she was.

“He was going to pay for it,” she insisted, as if she were very insulted. “We’re leaving!”

She marched to Dayna and grabbed her arm, leading both she and her brother to the door as fast as she could without running.

Someone grabbed the back of Ash’s shirt. She glanced over her shoulder. The man who had caught Matt held her tight.

“Run,” she told Matt and Dayna.

“We’re not leaving you,” Matt said.
