The streets were newly swept, the houses and buildings freshly painted and scrubbed, and the few citizens they chanced across were well-dressed and clean, if not a little strange. Neither Jaelin nor Shaela could help but stare. The only nonhumans they’d met had been the Maelnords, and though they knew of other species, they’d never met any in the flesh.


The people of Sydens were centurions, or humans with delicate antlers gracing their heads. There were also a few fauna, whose lower bodies resembled goats walking on two hind feet. Their legs were slender and covered in smooth hair. There were also a few centaura running around, with a human torso and head but the body and legs of a horse.
