Chapter 34

“Intimidating, isn’t it?” Airk whispered to Shaela.

She glared at him. “Indeed.”

The word was chiseled in ice, but he didn’t let it bother him. He continued his study of the palace as they were led inside by the dark-skinned Emini.

Jaelin whispered to her sister, “Are they savages?”

Shaela laughed. “You don’t have to whisper. They speak their own language. And no, they aren’t savages.” She glared at Airk. “Unlike some I could mention.”

He greeted her remark with a smile.

The Emini stopped before a large archway. Two guards stood before them, their skin blending with the dark wood. Their hair was fashioned in cropped dreadlocks and they held wicked-looking spears. Silently they motioned the men and their captives through the archway inside.
