He found her at the bow with the ship’s cook, but it wasn’t until she noticed Airk that she began to flirt with the crewman. He stormed off, yelling at everyone in sight. The sailors steered clear—his rage was legendary. The Princess was not so lucky.

“Get out of here!” Airk roared as he stomped passed her.

Jaelin stood her ground. “Just who do you think you’re talking to?”

“What are you, deaf? Get away from me!” Airk brandished his dagger.

Beside her, the Baret pulled his broadsword, but Jaelin placed a staying hand on his arm. “You have to be the moodiest man alive. What’s your problem now?”

Resheathing his dagger, Airk averted his gaze. “Nothing.”

“That’s a blatant lie.” She folded her arms across her chest and planted herself before him. “We’re going to stay here until you tell me the truth, Airk Ranon.”

He looked at the Baret, incredulous. One moment he’d been ready to run her through, and now she wouldn’t get out of his way. “Is she always like this?”
