Chapter 83

In front of the altar stood King Randel, beaming proudly at his daughter and his Baret, and beside him stood King Dmetri. The older king had journeyed from Navarasia in the hopes of seeing his son Dreux, but the young prince was another friend left behind.

Even the Shayrron had shown up—Shaela feared the wedding might turn depressing. Everywhere she looked, she saw something or someone who reminded her of their lost friends. What didn’t remind her of the dead reminded her of Airk and the fact that, wherever he was at that moment, he wasn’t with her.

With a shake of her head, Shaela replied, “No, we’re heading out tomorrow. So…how does it feel to be married?”

Jaelin laughed. “It’s wonderful! But I’ve only been a wife for a few minutes now. Ask me again in a couple years. Did he show up?”
