Chapter 6

The two horses loped side by side around the pen. Brad could see other riders and those standing at the rail watching as the two matched each other stride for stride. He felt a thrill of pride.

“Go ahead and work him the other way for a bit. I’m gonna keep goin’ left. Tango’s left lead is weaker than his right.”

Brad nodded and brought Desi back to a walk. Riders were going both directions in the pen, one of the hazards of the warm up arenas. So, Brad had to wait for a clear space to reverse his direction to go to the right. When he did he cued the lope again.

Brad was riding with his head down, studying the way Desi held his head, low and steady, when someone yelled, “What the fuck are you doing, asshole! You novices should be banned from the arena. Get the hell out of my way.”
