She shook her head. “Double bed for man and wife. But we all full.”

“It’s fine,” I said through gritted teeth. Sam and Mark were of little help, they were trying, not all that successfully, to remain straight-faced.

“Can I be of assistance?” Peter swished over.

“Yes, I was just telling the young lady that the apartment we’ve booked is okay,” I said, sending up a silent prayer that this whole scene would soon be over.

Peter and the receptionist held a conversation in rapid-fire Spanish with accompanying hand gestures. Peter gave Mark and me a long look over, came to a decision, and then continued conversing with the confused woman. She blushed, then presented us with the register which Mark and I signed. She then handed over the room key without meeting our eyes. Whereas Peter on the other hand gave us a smile and a knowing wink.
