Chapter 24

“She says you’re welcome.” Brendan squeezed Adam’s butt. “Let’s go.”

The moonlight provided ample illumination for them to find their clothes, stow the blanket and bridle the horses. They mounted. Adam took one last look around before Brendan clucked to Diablo, who started to move off back up the hill. Betsy followed. It wasn’t long before Adam was sure Brendan had been right. The horses moved with confidence, seemingly sure of their destination.

As they rode along at an easy jog side-by-side, Adam felt his worries about their uncertain future rising again.

“Brendan?”

“Yeah?”

“Aren’t you worried that you haven’t heard from the Mustangs?”

No immediate answer was forthcoming. Adam was about to ask Brendan once more when he said, “Naw, they’ll come through. Don’t forget…it’s Brendan Fletcher we’re talkin’ about here.”
