“Yeah, and…” Sam squinted, “I’d swear that’s a carbon copy of Billy’s nose.”

Billy smiled and came closer to see for himself.

Pete held out his arms to receive Michael. Sam felt strangely reluctant to hand him over.

Sam hoped someone would clue him into Michael’s paternity, but everyone remained tight-lipped. Maybe they had mixed their sperm and…

“We should be going,” Zack said, “I’ll be back on shift in little over five hours.”

“Can’t you get the day off?” Beth yawned.

“Wish I could, but I’ve got too many patients to see.”

“Well, thank you, thank you more than I can say for what you did tonight,” Beth said, yawning again.

“What she said,” Billy spoke up.

“Me three on that,” Pete said, his eyes never leaving the face of his new-born son.

“My pleasure.” Turning to Sam, Zack squeezed his right bicep. “Ready to go, angel?”

Sam nodded. He went over to the bed, kissed Beth’s cheek, then as had become their practice, approached Billy, and hugged and kissed him on the lips.
