Dr. Taft’s tone turned serious, and he continued, “I would caution you guys about one thing, though.”

“What’s that?” I said.

“Your partner mentioned having his tongue up your anus. You want to use soap and water and wash yourself thoroughly and deeply before you do that. If the one being rimmed isn’t clean, it’s one of the easiest ways there is to catch hepatitis.”

Philip said, “I’d heard that, but sometimes in the heat of the moment I forget.”

“Well, don’t forget,” the doctor said. “You don’t want to even think about having to deal with hepatitis A, B, C, or D.”

“We’ll definitely remember that in the future,” I said. “Now that we have that out of the way, I have a question.”

“Fire away.”

“We run six miles every morning, and swim a mile of laps at least every other evening. When can I resume any of the above?”
