Chapter 30

“Thanks, Bruce. I really appreciate this, and I’ll probably need to do the same thing tomorrow morning.”

“Not a problem,” he said.

“Bruce.”

“Yes?”

“Are you and Richard getting serious?”

“I have been for a while now, and I think he’s getting there slowly. We did get tested recently, and as of last week we stopped using condoms.”

“If you don’t mind my asking, whose idea was that?”

“Richard’s, actually,” he said.

“Wow! That’s a very big step for Richard, and it’s hugely significant that he suggested it. You do know that he’s been in love with Charles to one degree or another since they were in high school.”

“I know. He’s told me all there is to tell about it, but I think he’s been pretty much over it for a long time.”

“Good. Charles and I both wish you the very best.”

“Thanks, man. I appreciate that,” he said, and gave me a brief hug. Something inside of me burst at that point, and with my one good arm I clung to Bruce and began to cry.
