Chapter 52

“I guess we are, sort of,” Tom said. “We’ve been together for several years now.”

They agreed on a restaurant, and he and Tom left to retrieve their bags. At the Foster residence, Noah said, “That was an interesting afternoon.”

“You can say that again.”

“That was an interesting afternoon.”

“Smartass.”

They met Mrs. Foster, Barbara, and Jonathan at the restaurant they’d agreed upon and had a great time talking during dinner. At nine, Tom said, “Sorry, guys, it’s pumpkin time for Noah and me. With luck, we can be home in bed by midnight.”

They said their good-byes and headed for the parking lot. As they neared the car, Tom said, “Babe, do you mind driving us home? I’m kind of wiped out.”

“No problem,” Noah said, and they were on the road a few minutes later. Luckily, the restaurant was close to I-4 and it didn’t take them long to get out of Orlando.

Later, as they were crossing the bridge over the St. Johns River near Sanford, Tom said, “Noah, are you wide awake?”
