his shock, he came face to face with a large board fastened high on a wooden

post. Stumbling back, he didn’t have time to see what its message was. It was

more a matter of trying to save himself from face-smashing collision. Then his

gaze travelled further down the post to find it clutched in human hands, which

were attached to arms and a body…and a startled Phiz.

“Hello!”

Despite the shock, Bryan felt an instinctive desire to smile. “Again.”

corner of the board knocking his glasses off his nose. “Fuck,” Phiz said.

remembered from before. His cheeks had reddened and he seemed to have trouble

meeting Bryan’s eyes. The board was either a fraction too heavy or too tall for

him: it seemed to be holding Phiz up rather than the other way around. “Are you
