Chapter 41

He

was suddenly distracted by a loud, ringing laugh from the direction of the Tube

station. His heart seemed to stop: his throat constricted around a huge lump of

shock. Slowly, he turned to face the open end of the side street.

It

was like something out of a movie. A horror movie. All Bryan could do

was watch the scene unfold, mouth open and speechless. A tall, dark-haired man

in jeans and a too-tight designer top passed on the main street, a few hundred

yards away. He was walking with a swagger, laughing aloud, and leaning in

towards an equally tall and handsome blond companion. Bryan watched them

helplessly. The blond whispering something provocative into the other man’s

ear. The pair of them laughing. The dark-haired man’s arm snaking around the

blond’s waist. The dark-haired man glancing aimlessly over his partner’s

shoulder and catching—oh my god—Bryan’s horrified gaze. Both men halting, the

shock Bryan knew was on his face mirrored on the dark-haired man’s.
