Chapter 56

“I asked Richard about fingerprints found in Lucinda’s apartment,” I said.

“And?”

“He doesn’t have a report back from the lab yet.”

“What can they learn from a report?”

“Well, if there are any prints that don’t belong to the deceased, we can send them through our usual channels and see if they have any record of them.”

“Sounds good.”

“Just another long shot.”

We finished our tea and decided to go out for a salad. First, we went back to the study, where Richard was as I’d left him. “Since you’ve been such a good boy, we’re going to reward you. We’re going down to Rick’s for a salad. Come along with us, and we’ll treat you to as much food as you can handle.”

He sat up at the mention of food and said, “I hope you’ve got plenty of money or plastic.”

The three of us went upstairs to clean up and were back in the kitchen some time later. I went to the stairs leading down to the living room, and Richard stopped me, saying, “That’s not the way to the garage.”
