Chapter 86

“Thank you, Sam. You can contact Mr. Greene when you have something to report, and he’ll handle things from there.”

“It’s my pleasure, I assure you.”

On the drive back to the office, Charles evidently had one other thought, one that had occurred to me also, and he said, “Richard, this might be where Bruce can help us. If Kellerman transmitted earlier versions of his report electronically to the DA’s computer system, the documents might be accessible to your friend.”

Richard groaned and said, “I don’t know if I have enough energy for that tonight.”

“Force yourself, my boy, force yourself.”

Richard reluctantly agreed to do just that. Then we dropped him off at the parking garage and went home.

I kept silent until we were changing clothes in preparation for a trip to the Y, and then I said, “Just what do you expect to find in that computer?”

“I’m afraid to tell you. It might raise false hopes.”

“Raise them, please.”
