Chapter 25

Finally, I said, “Look guys, the important thing is to get him home. Toss a coin if you must, but let’s get him out of here and safely home.”

“Yeah, cutie, you’re right,” Zeke said. “I’ve got a coin—call it, Norm.”

“Heads.”

“Shit, heads it is. Okay, Norm, you’re in charge of driving Zeb home.”

“Good,” I said. “Can we get on with it now?”

By the time we got home and Zeb was settled in bed, it was time for dinner. Zeke and Norm were too wound up to even think about cooking, so I ordered pizza for the four of us. After it was delivered, we sat on the edge of Norm and Zeb’s bed and ate.

“Shit,” Zeb said. “She’ll freak.”

“No, she won’t,” Zeke said. “She’ll be cool about it, but she’ll want to come to Florida to see you.”

“That old truck of hers won’t make it,” Zeb said. “Why don’t you call George first and find out when he and Mike are gonna be up there again?”
