Chapter 6

“See if you can book me into a hotel for the night,” I said. “There’s a Hampton Inn at I-4 and SR-436, I think. In any case, I’ll need two beds.”

“Will do. Have fun.”

There were two cruisers parked at the curb, one with a driver behind the wheel, the other obviously empty. The uniform who’d rung the doorbell handed me a set of keys and said, “Enjoy your ride, Lieutenant.”

“Thanks,” I said.
