I handed Nick a copy of the draft and said, “Read this while we ride up the elevator. I’ve got a feeling that’s what they want to discuss with us.”
“Sure, George. This has been quite a day, hasn’t it?”
“That it has.”
When we reached the sheriff’s office, Nick had finished reading the draft.
“Anything you want to add?” I said.
“No, I think this will fly as it is.”
“Let’s hope our bosses think so.”
The sheriff’s secretary told us to go right in, so I knocked and then opened the door.
“Come in, gentlemen,” the sheriff said, indicating two chairs in front of his desk.
