Chapter 15

“Nap time,” Brody said.

“Yeah. I sleep on my right side, facing away from the bed.”

“Funnily enough, so do I,” Brody said, “but it’s my left side.”

An hour later, refreshed by their nap, Brody and Sheldon were in the water, skis in place, waiting for Mr. Murphy to hit the throttle. He did so, and they were off and skiing. They kept at it until Brody sensed that Sheldon was getting tired, so he signaled his grandfather to return to the dock

When they were standing in the shallows dealing with their skis, Sheldon said, “Why did you stop?”

“Because you were getting tired.”

“No I wasn’t.”

“Sheldon, I’ve been skiing regularly for years, and I’m used to using certain muscles. You haven’t done it in a long time, so you have to be feeling it.”

“Yeah, I hate to admit it, but I am. I just wanted to keep up with you.”

“And you will—after six months to a year of skiing regularly. Just not today. There’s no shame in pacing yourself.”

“Yeah.”
