“Now I know what it’s like to feel totally helpless,” he said.
“If you want to do something, why don’t you call your father and have him meet us at the ER?” Ron said.
“Yeah, why didn’t I think of that?”
Brody took out his cell phone and dialed his father’s office. Eventually, he said, “Joan, is he in? … I don’t care if the President is in the office with him, put him on the line, now. … This is Brody, and I’m in the back of an ambulance with my grandfather, that’s why. … Sorry I was rude to Joan, Dad. Pop’s been in a bad accident, and we’re in an ambulance on the way to the ER. … He’s alive, but that’s all I know right now. … No we’re not going to the county hospital. … Meet us at the Parker Memorial ER.”
When they pulled into the bay at the ER, Brody jumped out of the back of the ambulance and helped Ron and Sheldon roll the stretcher into a treatment area. He spotted his father standing in the waiting area, and hurried over to him.
