Chapter 31

The surgeon looked at Brody. “Someone told me there was an RN wearing an EMT shirt in the waiting area. Would that be you?”

“Yes, Sir. I’m an RN, and by this time next year, I hope to be an RN First Assistant.”

“Good for you. Anyway, maybe you can explain what I’m saying to the rest of your family. His condition will officially be listed as ‘critical’. As to whether he will recover, I can only say that although the prognosis is not good, I’m cautiously optimistic.”

“But you’re not going to commit yourself one way or the other,” Brody said.

“Exactly. I don’t want to give you folks any false hope. Because you’re an RN, I’m going to allow you to see him in the recovery room for a minute or two. You can tell your family about it when you come back.”

“Thank you, Doc,” Brody said, and followed the surgeon out of the room.
