Chapter 1: A Student Transcript

At the time of dusk it seemed to be cool temperatures today. Some wind but will not chill your skin and hair follicles to the point in which you just wear a simple light jacket. It's easy going outside with just a t-shirt and some jeans. Even though I always have a hoodie on. The sky above was half orange and half dark blue. The air was very refreshing with a lot of trees around me. Thought maybe if I ever go on a date I will just walk next to her here and have a nice stroll. Though the thing on my mind now was sleep, I felt somewhat tired as I looked up at the closing dark sky above me but I know it's from all this walking I did to get to this place. It's what I got to do to get a comfortable bed to sleep on tonight. I had the files in my hand and my single strap luggage in my other hand. I opened my files and took a look inside. Hopefully they don't judge my braid that touches my shoulder. This long piece of hair means a lot to me. I got closer to what seems to be the only building out in this vast somewhat flat land. I looked behind me and the city was nowhere to be seen. Was the campus big because all I see is this one big college building that has a huge clock toward the front. The time points it out to be almost eight o'clock. Reminding me that I should eat. Well, I am at the gate. Hopefully I can find some office or even better the principal's office and talk to him where I will be staying. I approached the front door and entered to find the halls pretty deserted at the moment. Typical, since it is so late right now, I assumed every student is either home or relaxing in their dorms. There was a stand that said, "Take me." I took one and it was a pamphlet that had the map of this one building with all the floors' details. There was also a bench next to it so I sat down and I put my stuff on the side. Took a minute to look inside the pamphlet to see where I am and where to go to find the principal's office. All of a sudden I hear footsteps coming in and my body freezes for a moment. I heard footsteps coming down from the right side of the hallway since the building placed a ninety degree fork and split the path both ways. A girl popped out and she had really long hair. It was so noticeable since it was swinging everywhere. I think it was all the way to her sides. Or even maybe lower. As she was walking down, I was scanning down her body. She seemed to be wearing some uniform but I am not so sure of the rules yet in this school. My eyes stopped to a sword like case at her side. Somehow it didn't bother me because right now I needed help. The map on the pamphlet was so confusing to read, it would probably take me an hour to find where I am exactly. I made the first move.

I raised my hand, "Hey."

"New here?"

Wait, how did she know I was... Oh, as I examine myself to see what gave it away. I guess it had to do with the map I had in my hand.

"Y-yea um do you mind showing me where the principal's office is?" I got kind of shy talking to her. She looked cute.

"Follow me then," she turned around and gives me a cold look, "... Move!" telling me in a demanding voice. She walks toward the direction where the principal's office would be.

I rolled my eyes when she turned around and picked up my stuff, "Sure." Finally I followed her. We walked up the stairs and climbed all the way up to the highest point of the building. Then when I walked more which seemed like forever since carrying my bag was so tiring at this point. Instead of carrying clothes it felt like I was carrying rocks. My arm was giving up on me. Though I tried to hold in my pain and hope that we were there soon. We got there in time and she opens the door for me to enter. I sat down on a chair and so did she as the door closed on it's own.

"Thank you." I waited for a response as I looked at her but she didn't even look back and decided to ignore me. The principal walks in. I can tell by the fancy suit he wears.

"Ah hello there, great timing. I was waiting for you."

"Right, sorry for making you wait." I replied.

The girl then said, "Alright looks like my time here is done." So she gets up and reaches for the door handle.

"No wait Katy." The principal stops her midway. "I need to speak with you as well." So her name is Katy. Good to know

She replies, "Fiiiiine."

We both walked into the principal's room and sat down at the two chairs in front of the big desk which behind it had one big leathery chair. It looked way more comfortable than the chairs that we were sitting on. I left my stuff in the principal's office waiting room and just had the files in my hands. The principal closes the door behind us and walks to his chair.

The principal explains, "Katy, I would like you to meet Shadow Shakri. He is a new transfer student in our campus and I think he will be a great addition to this school. So since he will be here for a while, can you show him around. Help him get around the school and make sure he's comfortable." He sounds optimistic about all this. Very energetic. While for me I am about to fall asleep on this chair.

"Sure." She replies.

"And for you Shadow, we have supplied you with multiple uniforms in your closet that you must wear during the day during school hours. After the day is done you can wear whatever you want."

"Understood sir" I replied.

"You are nineteen currently?"

"Yes sir."

"And you want to go into a science major."

"Correct."

"Alright then your school schedule is perfect for you."

Katy asked with a bit of annoyance, "Is that all I have to do for tonight?"

"Yes, you can leave. Oh I will take your files Shadow. I will need to do some paperwork."

I got up and handed him the files as he asked.

"Right now off you go, Shadow's dorm is room fifteen." The principal opened a drawer that was on the right side of the desk and pulled out a key card. He handed me the card. "Don't lose it."

"I won't. Thank you for your time." I gestured a small bow to show my respects

"No problem young man. Welcome to Rosary University." He placed his elbows on the desk and learned forward smiling at me.

"It's an honor and a privilege sir." I reach to shake his hand.

He grabs my hand in response and we shook. I had a smile on my face that I couldn't hide and took my leave.

I opened the door and let Katy walk out first and I followed her since she is willing to take me to my dorm. We went out to the back of the school building and there were multiple buildings hiding behind the main front entrance building. I was amazed how big the building is that we were currently in because I didn't see all this on the way coming in. I think about it more and it almost acts like a wall for the school. I looked around and as we walked outside. The campus lights were on and made the place more ominous but it felt safe rather than spooky. It was also very quiet as I only heard crickets and an owl hooting from the distance. I looked up and the lights from the campus didn't remove the stars shining from space. "Now that's good scenery." I said that out loud and Katy turned around to look at me with a weird face. I pointed up to explain. "You don't like space?" She turned back around unimpressed. I don't know what she is worked up about. Did I do something to her? Maybe the principal giving her work at this time pissed her off and she had to take the time out of whatever she was doing to help me out.

"Sorry I got you in this mess and now you got to help me around. I knew you were off doing your own th-"

"Shush it's okay I don't mind it." Interrupting me mid-sentence and she didn't even look back. I just stayed quiet from now on.

We got to the other building and there were some lights open. I looked closer in one of the windows and spotted a shadow moving. Maybe a student was looking out the window. This must be where the students are sleeping. And what do you know, Katy went to the front door and opened it. Alright relax, no need for the ego to pop up and act like a smart sarcastic nerd on the first day. We went into the dorm building and as we were walking I noticed a big painting. Well it was kind of obvious to notice a huge painting where there is a pink girl stick figure and a blue boy stick figure where it tells us one side is the girls and the other side is the boys. Though everyone is in the same building. Interesting.

Katy went up the stairs to the second most top floor and found my room number fifteen.

I asked, "Why are the low numbers at the top but the higher numbers at the bottom?" She didn't answer. Probably because she didn't have an answer so I just opened the door and got my stuff inside.

We both walked in and Katy was standing on the side while I looked around the dorm. There seems to be a small kitchen right as you walk in the dorm. Fridge, stove, and more. There was one small bathroom that had a shower inside and bedroom. Surprisingly they gave me a decent sized bed. The bed looks... comfortable. "I'm... going to the bathroom." I just booked it. Again she didn't say a word.

I flushed and washed my hands, but when I got out of the bathroom she wasn't standing next to the door nor was she sitting on the couch. I went to the bedroom and found her dead asleep on my bed. I softly spoke aloud, "what the hell?" I didn't know what to do and by the look of it she looks like she is having the nap of her life. I didn't dare to try to wake her up as that would hurt my soul. She was slightly curled up and her weapon on the left side of the bed. I sneaked up and took a look at it. Opened it up slightly and realized it was a katana. A full one too with Japanese lettering on it, dragon art on the handle grip and a red tassel hanging at the end of the grip. I looked at it amazed. It looked so clean too. Now I am curious as to wanting to know how many people were on the wrong side of the blade to meet their fate with this katana. I put it back where it was and I went to the kitchen to hook me up with some coffee. Thought I might as well stay up late at night anyways and get myself comfortable by setting up my computer at the desk and putting my belongings stored into the cabinets and closets. As I finished unpacking everything and got everything organized. The coffee was done so I grabbed a mug and got a chair to sit next to her and wait it out. She eventually opened her eyes and sat up.

"So you are finally awake."

"S-sorry, I don't know how I fell asleep like that." She had her hand on her head holding her temples. Suddenly she got up, got her katana and started to walk out

"Hold up, wait!"

She walked out of the door and didn't stop to say a word. She walked to her dorm and all I could was sit there. I knew from that look that there was no way in convincing her anything. She didn't want to be bothered in the first place.

"Guess they gave me some cheap coffee. Cause I'm struggling to stay awake." I set up my laptop and got to work. Plus got the whole charging cable ports ready. I'm thinking, since I joined this school mid-year, it is going to be hell to catch up. I need to push more late nights if I want to succeed.
