“See?” Curtis
said, and he winked at Patrick. “You and Lee can take it a bit easier, right?
Enjoy some fun before the big re-opening. It’s about time, I must say. You’ve
both been working bloody hard to get things going again.”
Patrick nodded
dismissively. But he felt reassured about Karel, even while his worry about Lee
nagged at him. “Come along to the shop tomorrow,” he told Karel. “We’ll see
what we can work out.”
DOUBLE SCOOP – 14
It was almost
one a.m. at the club, and Patrick had been yawning on and off for ten minutes.
He hadn’t seen Lee for a while, but as he collected his coat from the
cloakroom, Lee tottered up beside him, leaning rather heavily on David’s arm.
“What’s up?”
Patrick was alarmed, but David shook his head reassuringly.
“Just too much
beer, I reckon. Nothing serious.” David’s shrewd look flicked between Patrick
and Lee. “But don’t you think he needs to go home?”
“Bloody don’t,”
Lee muttered. “Shtill got dance shmoves in me.”
