Chapter 17

“When can I have a transcript of everything that was said?” I said.

“Tomorrow evening, why?” he said.

“Because the guy spouted some alleged quotations from my last book when he was trying to butter me up. One of them didn’t sound like it came from the book, and I want to do some checking.”

“Check your e-mail when you get home today,” he said. “I’ll give it a rush.”

“Thanks, Rupert.”

When I got home, I went straight to the safe room and turned on my computer. As promised, there was an e-mail from Rupert with a transcript of the conversation in an attached file. I sent that to the printer and closed the e-mail. Then I opened a WordPerfect document that contained the final corrected draft of my last book. I scanned that document for every phrase contained in the e-mail, and found all but one of them. After that, I went looking through other documents and finally found what I was looking for.
