“What about?”

“About this, about us, about where this is heading.”

“What’s to talk about?” Noah said. “I’m pretty sure I’m in love with you. Anything wrong with that?”

“Just pretty sure?”

“I’ve never been in love,” Noah said, “so I don’t know what it’s really like, but what I’ve been feeling for you these past two days certainly matches any description of love that I’ve ever heard of or read about.”

“I didn’t want this to happen.”

“Why not?”

“Because you’re innocent, vulnerable, and totally without experience. I was determined not to take advantage of all of the above.”

“So why did you? Not that I believe for one minute that you took advantage of anything. Taking advantage implies that you made me do something that I didn’t want to do.”

“Because,” Tom said, “and I’ve never said this to anyone and never thought I would be saying it to anyone, at least not for years, I love you, Noah. It’s as simple as that.”
