Chapter 24

“‘Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy onus and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.’

“THE REVISED BCP did what even the Civil War couldn’t do. The Episcopal church was the only major Protestant denomination that didn’t split in two during that period. “You must have grown up in the Episcopal church,” she said.

“Yes, Ma’am, I did, and although the new prayer book was in use when I was very young, my home church was what we refer to as ‘high church’ and stuck to the old prayer book. I miss it.”
