She glanced at the check. “Very good. Oh, and I have one more item. This one’s for Ted.” She fished around in a desk drawer, produced a small pamphlet, and handed it to Ted.

Ted took it and read, “How to take care of your new puppy.”

He looked up at Mrs. Brown. “Thank you, very much.”

“You’re welcome, young man. What are you going to call your puppy? That is, if you already know.”

“Yes, Ma’am. I’m going to call him Bishop.”

“That’s an interesting name,” she said. “How did you come to select it?”

“That was the name of my best friend… my only friend back home.”

“Good choice,” she said.

“Ready to go, kiddo?” Chris said.

“Yes, Sir.”

“And what do you say to Mrs. Brown?”

“Thank you.”

“You’re very welcome, Ted,” she said.

In the car, Ted said, “Where’s Bishop going to sleep?”

“On the back porch, at least until he’s housebroken,” Chris said.

“All the way out there? Why? Won’t he be cold?”
