Chapter 82

“Say what?”

“A visit to Savannah is still on your to-do list.”

“Yeah.”

“How was your first day of school, Ted?”

“It was great.”

“The ladies aren’t working you too hard, are they?”

“No, Sir.”

Mickey and Ted visited with Chris for a quite a while, but eventually they had to leave.

“I need to get back in bed, guys,” Chris said. “And you probably have homework to do, don’t you, Ted?”

“Yes, Sir.”

When Mickey helped Chris into the hospital bed, he noticed that Chris was moving slowly and carefully.

“Are you in pain, babe?” he said.

“A little bit.”

“Then you ought to push that button.”

“The button is gone, Mick. Do you see an IV in the back of my hand?”

“Now that you mention it, no.”

“They’ll bring me a pill when I ask them for it.”

“Then Ted and I will head for home so you can do just that, okay?”

“Yeah,” Chris said.

“Yeah won’t cut it, babe. This is not the time for you to be stoic. Promise me that you’ll call for a pill.”
